Balancing a Business alongside a Career: SkillHer Meet 3.0 Recap

Date: March 28, 2024 | Time: 3 pm | Venue: LMP Space

The third edition of SkillHer Meet unfolded on March 28, 2024, at LMP Space, bringing together a diverse group of young women eager to explore the knowledge on how to balance their business alongside a career, with the theme," Balancing your Business alongside a Career." The event promised valuable insights, and it delivered beyond expectations. The facilitator was Pamilerin Akintayo, also known as Coach PA.

Coach PA, has an Economics degree and is currently pursuing a Master's in Business Administration. She has completed numerous certification programs and has expertise in leadership and business coaching, product design (UI/UX), project management, and human resource management.

 Event Highlights:

The event kicked off with attendees introducing themselves, creating an engaging atmosphere. Coach PA's bio was then read, offering a glimpse into the wealth of knowledge she was about to share.

Keynote Session:

Coach PA took the stage, and started by having a practical session with us where she asked us to check and write down the skills needed to run a successful business. She also moved on to ask us to check and write down the skills needed to be successful in our career. After we were done, it dawned on us that all the skills you need to run a successful business are the exact same skills you need to be successful in your career. She admonished us to  approach our jobs with a positive mindset, we should see our jobs as a platform that is teaching and training us with the right skills while still paying us. She said we should learn all we can learn while we can.

She also threw a case study to us that if we were offered 100 million to sell our business at the stage that it is, are we going to sell it? It brought about a roar in the room as everyone had their opinion and reasons to why they will or will not sell their businesses.

During the Q&A session, Maryam posed a common question: "What do I need to start a business?"

Coach PA's advice was practical—start where you are, invest in knowledge as much as you can, and learn the skills needed, get certifications if possible. A reminder that barriers can be overcome with determination and resourcefulness.

The event concluded with heartfelt appreciation for Coach PA's invaluable insights. Participants left armed with knowledge to navigate a business alongside a career.

SkillHer Meet 3.0 was a resounding success, unraveling the intricacies of balancing a business alongside a career through Coach PA's expertise. As we reflect on the event, let's apply the shared knowledge to propel our businesses and careers forward.

Some of the feedbacks were:

Oyindamola: The session was very interactive, the facilitator broke down everything so that everyone could understand.

Omolara: I love how the session was interactive and relatable. The facilitator made it so easy to understand and I was able to see some things I thought I knew in another helpful way.
