Reflections from the SkillHer Job Shadowing Program

From March to May 2025, SkillHer brought learning to life through its Job Shadowing Program, a practical and purpose-driven initiative that connected young women with real-world experiences in community and project management. Designed to bridge the gap between ambition and action, the program gave participants an intimate look at what it takes to build and sustain digital communities and run impactful projects.

The call

We’re proud to share reflections from three standout participants—Derinsola Agboluwaje, Joy Ipemosi Momoh, and Monilola Olaseinde—who immersed themselves in roles that demanded initiative, creativity, and heart.

Derin: Learning the Pulse of Online Communities

Assigned as a WhatsApp Community Manager, Derin stepped into a space where digital silence sometimes speaks volumes. She worked on composing group messages, encouraging engagement, and organizing participant data. Derin also learnt the use of google docs and sharpened both her communication and technical skills.

Derinsola Agboluaje

"All thanks to the coordinator of this program, I learnt how to work on Google Sheets and also how to interact with people."

— Derin

Her takeaway? Practical tools and interpersonal growth. She completed her shadowing without unmet expectations—testament to how effective hands-on learning can be.

Joy: From Observer to Contributor*

Joy’s role as a Community Manager in training was all about progression—from learning SkillHer's values and structure to taking ownership of content and engagement strategy. Her journey was marked by real-time learning: writing summaries after live events, scheduling opportunity posts, and brainstorming for content ideas.

Joy Momoh

"Every message, every update, every piece of content and community interaction are all crafted with purpose."

— Joy

Her reflection captures the spirit of community building: intentionality. Her experience grew from shadowing to confident contribution—and she highlighted the stipend as a meaningful gesture of trust and support.

Monilola: Project Management in Action

On the project management track, Monilola took on real responsibilities: learning the art of: sourcing facilitators, hosting monthly sessions, writing blog posts, and onboarding new members.

Through this, she learned about intentionality—choosing collaborators wisely and using resources efficiently.

Monilola Olaseinde

"I was open to a lot of new things… I learnt the importance of paying attention to detail and proper timing."

— Monilola

Beyond technical skills, she deepened her awareness of values and character in team building—lessons that extend far beyond a spreadsheet.

Looking Forward

The SkillHer Job Shadowing Program proved more than a stepping stone—it was a launchpad. Each participant stepped away with not just skills, but a stronger sense of purpose and potential. We’re incredibly proud of their growth and grateful to have supported their journeys.

As we look ahead to future cohorts, one thing is certain: at SkillHer, learning doesn’t stop—it evolves, and it empowers.

SkillHer continues to build spaces where women can thrive not just through learning, but through doing, reflecting, and connecting.

Here’s to more bold, skilled, and confident women leaders!
