Skillher Meets October Recap

*Practical Financial Management Lessons with Goodness Iruoma

In October, we held our meet session in the form of a discussion connect —our very first session of its kind— and it turned out to be highly enlightening and impactful. The session was led by our amazing facilitator, Goodness Iruoma, founder of Oma books and a proud member of the SkillHer community who shared practical and actionable insights on financial management, leaving participants inspired and empowered.

The event, held at LMP Space, Favos Building, Bodija, Ibadan, started at 3:00 PM.

It commenced with an interesting introductory session to ease everyone into the empowering discussion of the day. Goodness structured her talk around the 3 Ms of Money: Make, Manage, and Multiply, offering valuable lessons that were both relatable and transformative.

Make

She outlined various ways to earn money while highlighting the importance of diversifying income streams. This could include not limited to:

- Pursuing the traditional 9-to-5 job.

- Freelancing or providing professional services.

- Selling consumables or products that meet people’s needs.

Manage

On managing money, she stressed that money is a tool—a means to achieve specific, pre-determined goals. She encouraged participants to:

- Save strategically to build financial stability.

- Set clear financial goals and identify what money should accomplish for them.

- Always view money as a tool, and make it work to achieve their goals.

She further emphasized that - by defining what money should accomplish for you, it becomes easier to stay disciplined and focused.

Multiply

To multiply money and to grow your wealth, invest it! Goodness highlighted the power of investment. She highlighted opportunities such as shares, bonds, and personal development. Goodness stressed that investing in yourself—whether through education, skill acquisition, or personal branding—is one of the best ways to ensure financial success.

She encouraged participants to cultivate the mindset that money should work for them, not the other way around. Financial investment, she explained, isn’t just about markets or portfolios; it includes learning new skills, attending events, and presenting oneself in ways that increase value and attract opportunities.

Goodness passionately discussed the importance of cultivating an open, growth-oriented mindset. She also challenged attendees to adopt an open and progressive mindset, breaking it down into three key phases:

- Transition from YEH (fright) to WOW by believing in possibilities.

- Move from WOW to HOW by identifying the steps required.

- Finally, act on the HOW with deliberate actions (DO).

She reminded participants that financial limitation is often a mindset issue, and comparison with others only hinders growth. Instead, she urged everyone to focus on their unique journey and leverage their skills to create value.

**Virtual Connect:

In addition to the physical discussion connect in October, we also had our first virtual connect, exclusive to SkillHer community members. Participants explored timeless principles of wealth building, including saving, investing wisely, and nurturing opportunities to grow financial independence using  the book 'The richest man in Babylon as a guide".

From the “Seven Cures for a Lean Purse” to mastering the art of disciplined spending, members shared actionable takeaways and real-life applications to empower their financial journeys.

Discussions like these keep us learning, growing, and supporting each other as a community of women committed to personal and professional excellence.
