The Upside of Working and Earning Remotely: Freedom, Flexibility & Global Paychecks

Image
The world of work is changing—and for women across Africa and beyond, this shift is opening new doors. Remote work isn’t just a trend; it’s a transformation. It’s changing how we show up, how we earn, and how we build lives that reflect our full potential. At SkillHer, we believe in helping women tap into that power—and it starts with understanding just how much upside there is to working and earning remotely. Here’s what makes remote work a game-changer: 1. Access to Global Opportunities You’re no longer limited by geography. With the right skills and mindset, a woman in Ibadan can work for a startup in Berlin or a nonprofit in Toronto. Remote work removes borders and connects you to clients, companies, and collaborators around the world. 2. Flexibility That Fits Your Life Whether you're a student, a mum, a caregiver, or simply someone building multiple passions, remote work gives you back control of your time. You can structure your day to work when you’re most productive, not j...

International Day of Action for Women's Health 2025: our message

Image
Today, on the International Day of Action for Women’s Health , we at SkillHer join women and girls around the world in recognizing the power of good health as the foundation for a full and meaningful life. This year’s theme — “ In Solidarity We Resist: Our Fight, Our Right !” — is a timely reminder that caring for our bodies and minds isn’t just essential, it’s powerful. And when we stand together, we become even stronger in protecting the health, dignity, and opportunities that every woman deserves. Wellness as a Pathway to Empowerment Health is more than just the absence of illness — it’s about feeling supported, confident, and capable of living the life you envision. Yet for many women, challenges still exist: limited access to quality care, silence around mental health, or lingering stigma around topics like reproductive wellness. At SkillHer, we believe every woman deserves the tools, space, and support to thrive — in every area of life. SkillHer Wellness: Supporting the Who...

" Exposure is a catalyst for empowerment."  This is one of the core beliefs we're driven by at SkillHer. We understand that it’s not enough to simply teach women and girls new skills—we must also create real-world opportunities for them to apply those skills, gain confidence, and see what’s possible. That’s why we introduced the SkillHer Job Shadowing Program . The "Why" Behind Job Shadowing Many of the women we serve are talented, motivated, and ready to learn—but unsure about how to translate what they know into viable career paths. They often haven’t had access to industry mentors, structured career guidance, or opportunities and workplaces that feel welcoming to them. The job shadowing program was designed to bridge that gap. By spending time with professionals across fields like tech, media, development and entrepreneurship, participants get to: Observe workflows and team dynamics Understand the soft and hard skills needed in real roles Ask qu...
