Reflections from the SkillHer Job Shadowing Program 2.0

From March to May 2025, SkillHer brought learning to life through its Job Shadowing Program, a practical and purpose-driven initiative that connected young women with real-world experiences in community engagement and project management. Designed to bridge the gap between ambition and action, the program gave participants an intimate look at what it takes to plan initiatives, foster engagement, and support impactful programs within digital communities.

We’re proud to share reflections from two participants, who immersed themselves in roles that demanded initiative, collaboration, creativity, and confidence.

Roseline: Project Management in Practice

Assigned to the Project Management track, OTUN ROSELINE M. had the opportunity to gain hands-on experience using vital project management tools to plan and execute tasks effectively.

During her job shadowing experience, she developed boldness and confidence in creating and presenting ideas. She drafted real program activities and actively contributed to shaping initiatives within the organization.

She also encouraged more women to join SkillHer, sourced for grants and funding opportunities, and identified potential partners to support organizational programs.

 

Additionally, she collaborated with team members to successfully run monthly online programs, ensuring smooth coordination and effective delivery.

Ruth: Strengthening Community Engagement

Serving as a Community Engagement Associate, Ruth Ayoyemi Fadipe reflected on how the program significantly impacted her personal and professional growth.

Working with SkillHer proved to be a game-changer, particularly in strengthening her communication skills. Through trainings and team interactions, she was able to articulate her thoughts more clearly and confidently while engaging with community members and collaborating with her team.

SkillHer also pushed her to think outside the box. The platform served as a valuable source of ideas and inspiration, enhancing her creative mindset and enabling her to develop innovative approaches to driving engagement.

She further appreciated the program’s emphasis on practical application, allowing participants to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world scenarios, contributing to more effective community engagement.

Looking Forward

The SkillHer Job Shadowing Program proved to be more than just a learning opportunity, it was a platform for growth, confidence building, and meaningful contribution.

Participants completed the program with strengthened skills, practical experience, and a deeper understanding of collaboration and engagement.
