Reflections from the latest SkillHer Job Shadowing Program

From December 2025 to March 2026, SkillHer continued its mission of empowering young women through its Job Shadowing and Traineeship Program—a practical and purpose-driven initiative designed to connect participants with real-world experiences in community engagement, project management, and digital communication.

The program was created to bridge the gap between school, ambition and action, providing young women with the opportunity to observe, participate in, and contribute to meaningful work within a growing social impact organization. Through mentorship, hands-on assignments, and collaborative projects, participants gained practical insights into what it takes to design programs, manage initiatives, and engage communities effectively.

We are proud to share reflections from some of the young women who immersed themselves in the experience—demonstrating initiative, creativity, collaboration, and a strong commitment to personal growth.

Roseline: Project Management in Practice

Assigned to the Project Management track, Otun Roseline M. gained hands-on experience using essential project management tools to plan and execute tasks effectively.

During her job shadowing experience, Roseline developed greater confidence in creating and presenting ideas. She had the opportunity to draft real program activities and contribute to shaping initiatives within the organization.

She also collaborated with team members to support the successful execution of online programs, helping to ensure smooth coordination and effective delivery. Through these experiences, Roseline gained a deeper understanding of how projects move from planning to implementation, and how teamwork plays a crucial role in achieving meaningful results.

Beyond her assigned tasks, she also took initiative in encouraging more women to become part of the SkillHer community.

Reflecting on the experience, she shared:

“I am sincerely grateful to SkillHer for the opportunity to learn, grow, and gain practical experience. I also deeply appreciate the stipend support, which made this journey even more meaningful and motivating.”

Ruth: Strengthening Community Engagement

Serving as a Community Engagement Associate, Ruth Ayoyemi Fadipe described her time with SkillHer as a transformative learning experience that contributed significantly to her personal and professional growth.

One of the most impactful outcomes for Ruth was the improvement of her communication skills. Through training sessions and active collaboration with the team, she became more confident in expressing her ideas, engaging with community members, and contributing to discussions around program activities.

The program also encouraged her to think creatively and explore new approaches to community engagement. Exposure to different perspectives and ideas helped her develop innovative ways to connect with audiences and contribute meaningfully to outreach activities.

Ruth particularly appreciated the program’s emphasis on practical learning, where theoretical knowledge was applied to real-life scenarios.

“Overall, my experience with SkillHer has been incredibly enriching, and I'm excited to continue growing and learning with the team.”

Sayo: Social Media, Storytelling, and Community Engagement

Assigned to the Social Media Management and Engagement track, Oluwasayofunmi Elizabeth Adebanjo experienced a meaningful journey of learning and growth while contributing to SkillHer’s digital communication and community engagement efforts.

Through her role, she discovered that social media is much more than simply posting content—it is about building a voice, shaping perception, and creating meaningful impact. This realization helped her approach content creation with greater intention, ensuring that each post aligned with SkillHer’s mission of empowering women and girls.

One of the most important lessons she gained during the program was the value of consistency and strategy in managing digital platforms. Effective social media management requires thoughtful planning, aligning content with themes, and ensuring that visuals, captions, and engagement efforts all tell a cohesive story.

During the program, she strengthened her skills in:

  • Content creation and storytelling

  • Community engagement and audience interaction

  • Using social media as a tool for empowerment and advocacy

Perhaps most importantly, she came to understand that social media is fundamentally about community building. It is not just about numbers or likes, but about creating spaces where women feel heard, supported, and inspired.

Reflecting on her experience, she shared:

“I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute, learn, and evolve within this organization.”

Looking Forward

The SkillHer Job Shadowing and Traineeship Program has proven to be far more than a learning opportunity—it's become platform for growth, confidence building, and meaningful contribution.

By the end of this cohort's program, participants have developed stronger professional skills, gained practical work experience, and built a deeper understanding of collaboration, community engagement, and digital communication.

As SkillHer continues to create opportunities for young women to learn by doing, the impact of these experiences becomes increasingly clear: when knowledge meets action, confidence grows, leadership emerges, and lasting change becomes possible.

Here’s to raising bold, skilled, and confident women who are ready to lead, innovate, and create meaningful impact in their communities.
