Goal setting workshop recap

We recently held a goal setting workshop for members of our community. Below are some excerpts you should find beneficial for quick reference: 

 As we all know, dreams without plans remain just that—dreams. This session will help you turn your vision into *clear, achievable steps*.


Let’s get started!

*1️⃣ Why Goal-Setting Matters*
Before we begin, take a moment to reflect: 

👉 *Think of one big dream you have for this year.* 
👉 *What’s stopping you from achieving it?* 

Drop your thoughts in your notepad!

Now, let’s talk about *why setting goals is important*: 

✅ Goals give you *clarity*—they turn vague dreams into something concrete. 
✅ They *keep you focused*—helping you prioritize what really matters. 
✅ Goals **increase motivation**—you’re more likely to take action when you have a clear plan. 
✅ They allow you to **track progress**—so you can celebrate small wins along the way.

*2️⃣ Breaking Down Big Dreams into Actionable Steps*
A big reason people don’t achieve their dreams is that they seem *too overwhelming*. The trick? *Breaking them into smaller steps!*

📌 *Write down ONE big goal you want to achieve in 2025.* 
📌 *Now, break it into smaller milestones—what can you achieve in the next 6 months? 3 months? 1 month?* 

 *3️⃣ The SMART Goal Framework*
Not all goals are created equal. That’s why we use *SMART Goals*: 

✔ **S – Specific** (What exactly do you want to achieve?) 
✔ **M – Measurable** (How will you track progress?) 
✔ **A – Achievable** (Is it realistic?) 
✔ **R – Relevant** (Does it align with your bigger vision?) 
✔ **T – Time-bound** (What’s your deadline?) 

Now, take your goal and turn it into a SMART goal. Here’s a template/example to help: 

Example: *By June 2025, I will complete a professional course in digital marketing by studying for 5 hours weekly and completing one module per month.*

*4️⃣ Identifying Obstacles & Overcoming Challenges*
Every goal comes with challenges, but planning ahead helps us overcome them. 

📌 *What’s one potential obstacle that could stop you from achieving your goal?* 
📌 *Now, think of a strategy to overcome it!* 

Example: 
**Obstacle** – Lack of time. 
**Solution** – Schedule dedicated time slots and use a planner.

*5️⃣ Staying Motivated & Tracking Progress*
A goal without tracking is like driving without a destination.

Ways to stay on track: 
✅ **Use a journal or goal-tracking app** (Google Calendar). 
✅ **Have an accountability partner**—someone to check in with regularly. 
✅ **Celebrate milestones**—reward yourself for progress, even small wins! 

📌 *Set a check-in date for your goal. When will you review your progress?* 
📌 *What’s one way you will reward yourself for progress?* 

*Now, we have a clear, actionable plan to set SMART goals!*
Stay committed, stay accountable, and remember—progress is better than perfection.
