What If Rest Is Part of the Work?
We talk a lot about the work.
The early mornings.
The late nights.
The applications.
The learning.
The building.
The showing up even when you don't feel ready.
We celebrate the woman who keeps going but rarely the woman who knows when to pause.
We often treat rest as something we earn after everything is done.
After the deadline.
After the next milestone.
After the programme.
After the money comes in.
After we have finally “made it.”
But there will almost always be another deadline. Another goal. Another opportunity. Another thing that needs your attention.
So what if rest isn't what happens after the work?
What if rest is part of the work?
Because growth requires more than effort. It requires recovery too.
There are seasons when pushing forward is necessary.
And there are seasons when the most productive thing you can do is step back, breathe, reflect and allow yourself to recover.
Not because you are lazy.
Not because you have lost your ambition.
But because you are human.
Sometimes you need a quiet weekend before another demanding week.
Sometimes you need to sleep without setting an alarm.
Sometimes you need to spend time with people who remind you that your life is bigger than your responsibilities.
Sometimes you need to do absolutely nothing that can be added to your CV.
And that is okay.
At SkillHer, we talk about becoming more confident, skilled, capable and prepared for opportunity.
But we understand that becoming also means learning how to care for the person doing all that becoming.
Because we don't just want women who can do more.
We want women who can build lives they can actually live in.
So this weekend, give yourself permission to pause.
You don't need to catch up on everything.
You don't need to have your next five years figured out.
You don't need to make your rest productive.
Just breathe.
Rest.
Reconnect.
And remember that taking care of yourself isn't taking time away from your journey.
It is part of how you sustain the journey.
Your weekend check-in
Ask yourself:
What has been taking more out of me than I have acknowledged?
What would it look like to genuinely recharge this weekend?
What can wait until Monday?
Maybe the answer to the last one is:
More than you think.
