SkillHer Receives dRPC Grant Backed by the Ford Foundation to Power Free Skills Acquisition Project for Women

We’re excited to share that in a new partnership development, SkillHer has received a grant as part of an NGO Support Initiative funded by the Ford Foundation and implemented by the development Research and Projects Centre (dRPC).

This support marks a significant boost to our ongoing work equipping women with practical skills, and we’re channeling it directly into our Signature SkillHer Skills Acquisition Workshop (SkillHer SAW) Project to empower women and young girls with relevant, income-generating skills at no cost.

A Movement to Strengthen Women-Led NGOs

The initiative, driven by dRPC, is designed to uplift community-based and women-led organizations doing impactful but often under-resourced work. Through targeted funding, strategic support, and visibility amplification, the initiative is helping establishments like SkillHer build stronger operational capacity and deepen their reach.

As part of the cohort, SkillHer is thrilled to expand our ability to deliver value at scale—offering more learning and more growth opportunities to the women we serve.

About the SkillHer Skills Acquisition Project

With this grant, we’re rolling out a larger edition of our SAW program that will focus on:

  • Equipping participants with in-demand digital and entrepreneurial skills

  • Improving economic participation among women and girls

  • Fostering a supportive, women-first learning environment

The program is our way of ensuring that support extends beyond organizations into the lives of real women who are ready to transform their futures.

A Stronger Network for Greater Impact

Being part of this Ford Foundation-backed initiative, alongside other inspiring women-led organizations, reinforces a powerful idea: that when local actors are supported, local solutions thrive.

We appreciate the dRPC for championing the development of grassroots organizations, and to the Ford Foundation for backing bold, inclusive progress.

"With this grant, we're not just running another training, we're building pathways to sustainable livelihoods for women in our society"- Kofoworola Akinsola, SkillHer Programs Manager comments while receiving the award in Abuja.

A Milestone That Matters

Being selected for this grant is not just an honor—it’s an affirmation of the value of the work being done by grassroots women-led organizations across the country. It’s also a reminder that when we invest in women, we unlock impact that ripples across families, communities, and generations.

We’re again deeply grateful to the Ford Foundation for supporting this initiative, and to dRPC for championing women-led development in all its forms.

What Comes Next

The upcoming free SkillHer Skills Acquisition Workshop Program will offer targeted learning in high-demand areas, while also creating a space for mentorship and confidence-building.

We believe skills are not just tools for employment—they’re a foundation for dignity, agency, and long-term growth.

The SkillHer Skills Acquisition Workshop (SAW) sessions will kick off shortly with enrollment already ongoing via this link. We’ll be sharing stories from our training sessions, updates from the women enrolled, and the impact that follows.

We remain committed to building skills that open doors—and with support like this, those doors are getting even wider. Stay tuned for updates.
