Investing in Girls Today, Advancing Women’s Rights Tomorrow: Moments from SkillHer's recent Community outreach

Women’s Month often begins with celebration. We recognize the achievements of women across history and the many ways they have shaped our world through courage, creativity, and persistence.

Earlier this month, our reflection at SkillHer focused on a simple but powerful idea: Give to Gain. When investment flows towards women and girls, society tends to gain in leaps and bounds. Additionally, when women invest in one another through mentorship, encouragement, and opportunity, the impact multiplies. Growth spreads from one woman to another, and from one generation to the next.

But celebration and reflection are only part of the journey.

This year’s global call from the United Nations emphasizes rights, justice, and action for all women and girls. It reminds us that progress requires more than acknowledging women’s contributions. It requires building a world where women and girls have the rights to pursue their ambitions, the justice of fair systems, and the support of communities willing to act.

At SkillHer, we believe these ideas come alive through practical engagement within our communities.

This International Women’s Day, members of the SkillHer community visited Ajegunle High School to spend time with the girls, sharing conversations around education, career choices, personal growth, and the possibilities that come with developing the right skills and mindset. The atmosphere was filled with curiosity, laughter, and thoughtful questions.

For many of the girls, it was a chance to hear directly from women who are navigating education, careers, and leadership in the real world. For our mentors, it was a reminder of how powerful simple encouragement can be.

Moments like these capture the spirit of Give to Gain in action.

When women share their experiences and invest their time in guiding younger girls, they are doing more than offering advice. They are helping expand how those girls imagine their futures. A conversation today can become confidence tomorrow. Encouragement today can become ambition in the years ahead.

In this way, mentorship becomes a quiet but powerful force for advancing the broader goals of rights, justice, and action. When girls grow up believing their voices matter and their aspirations are valid, they are more likely to pursue opportunities, participate in decision-making spaces, and advocate for themselves and others.

Real change often begins with moments like these.

As we continue through Women’s Month, we are reminded that progress is sustained not only by policies or declarations but also by communities that actively invest in the next generation.

At SkillHer, we remain committed to nurturing spaces where women can grow, support one another, and extend that impact to young girls who are just beginning to imagine what their futures could hold.
